How Arizona’s Heat Can Impact Your Tires

The Arizona heat helps  our desert wildlife thrive, but it can wreak havoc on your vehicle’s tires. Find out how the hot weather can affect your tires and what you can do about it.

Higher Pressure

The higher the outside temperature, the higher the pressure levels inside your tires. When the asphalt roads get extremely hot, this heat is transferred to your tires and can make them become overinflated. If tires become too overinflated, they can blow out, leading to a possible accident or causing you to require a tow truck

To avoid inopportune blow outs during the hot Arizona summers, be sure to regularly check the air pressure levels of your tires. Your local gas station is likely to have a gauge on hand, or you can purchase one at an auto supply shop. Not sure what the correct air pressure is for your tires? You can find the information on the tag in the driver’s side door jam or in your owner’s manual.

Melted Rubber

Tires are made of rubber, which can be synthetic or natural. Both varieties contain a certain amount of oil, which keeps the rubber from cracking or breaking. But when the rubber is exposed to high levels of heat, the oil can dry out, causing your tires to become damaged.

When the temperature goes up, it’s a good idea to check your tires and ensure that they are in good condition before you head out on the road. It may be beneficial to replace your tires before the summer season if they are especially worn out.
